Climate Protection - What Can I Do?

Mankind is heading towards a global climate catastrophe. Arctic ice has shrunk to lowest level on record and sea levels are rising. The consequences are drastic impacts on climate change like enormous spring tides and disastrous hurricanes.
20% of the world population consume 55% of the world energy, 80% have to be content with 45%.
Results of the recent past show that the problems of climate change have been highly underestimated. Yet there is still time to counteract. That can be achieved not only by contracts and intentions of politicians but also by making people aware of the problem and thus leading to a change of behaviour with every single citizen.

Together with the participating schools the project is to check the reasons and consequences of climate change and develop ways of how technical developments and change in behaviour can accelerate climate protection.

In an interdisciplinary project (Geography, Biology, Climatology, History, Computing Science, Physics and Technology) we will investigate as many aspects of the problem as possible. The results will be put on display as a travelling exhibition and on our home page.

One of the most interesting aspects of this project is that nearly all schools have integrated technically orientated branches and training schemes. So the subject of investigation does not remain on a theoretical base but is approached practically (experiments, modelling).

A global subject, such as climate protection, demands international and interdisciplinary cooperation. Students are to look for solutions together and thereby learn that they are not alone with their efforts. They learn that other people suffer from similar fears of horrifying scenarios and that they have similar requirements to an economically and ecologically stable future. Together, in European cooperation, they develop serious thoughts on how every single one can contribute to the solution of this future problem. The European cooperation will help to solve common problems and so make pupils aware of the big problem that Europeans have to face and solve for a common better future.
